Healthy Choice Golden Crusted White Fish Review

Since it's been a few days since my last post, I am posting a few photo highlights from the last couple of days, as well as a review for the Healthy Choice frozen dinner I had last night.

I will start off with the DiGiorno four cheese pizza dipping strips I had for dinner on Monday. They come with 1 garlic & 1 marinara dipping sauce. I thought they would be like cheese sticks that you get from the pizza restaurants, but they were more like cheese pizza cut into strips. I didn't really see the need for the marinara sauce, since there was sauce already under the cheese. I also think there wasn't enough garlic dipping sauce. I added a little butter & garlic to what was left of the garlic sauce, to make enough to go with the leftover pizza I had for lunch the next day. The garlic sauce was not very garlic-y to begin with either. The strips and marinara however, were very good. I had 3 strips for dinner along with an iceberg & spinach salad with onion, green pepper, and Italian dressing.

My dinner on Tuesday was a MSF riblet with macaroni & cheese and some frozen green beans cooked with onion, garlic, and soy sauce. I added a tiny sprinkle of shredded cheese to the top of my macaroni which was just the plain boxed version. I prefer homemade mac & cheese, but this was quick and easy and DH, for some unknown reason, actually prefers the box type.

Just to throw in a little sweetness, Mom & Lynda treated us to DQ Blizzards yesterday. I had a German Chocolate one that was loaded with pecans. It was sort of melted, but still very good. Thanks again for the ice cream!

Now for my review of the Healthy Choice Golden Crusted White Fish. I think the concept for this dinner was not bad, however I wasn't very impressed with the product.

First of all, there was absolutely no obvious seasoning on the green beans, the brown rice came with lots of scallions for flavor and what was suppose to be a cheesy Chardonnay sauce. The sauce was not bad, but cheese did not come to mind when I tasted it. It reminded me of a milk gravy which didn't really go with the tartar sauce I'd made for the fish. It did help in making the rice which was sort of dry & onion-y, edible.

The fish had a crust that was made with what resembles bird seed. I suppose it's millet or something similar, chia or flax seeds, and sunflower. I'm not sure what else. I do like seeds, but I wasn't very impressed with their breading. I have to say the best part of this dinner was the sauce/gravy and it wasn't at all what I had expected. It was edible, but I didn't like it and I probably wouldn't buy it again. This dinner unfortunately get a thumbs down and only 2 stars from me.

That's it for today's post. I hope to start adding some new recipes soon. You can check out what I have so far on my recipe page and stay updated on new recipes by subscribing or following me on Twitter. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day!!!

Cake And Coffee Breakfast

Breakfast yesterday was cake & coffee. Don't think cake, think muffin. What's the difference? Both are sweet and involve sugar, flour, & eggs. This cake even has fruit & nuts. It's a pineapple upside down cake with pecans, that Lynda made from scratch.

I had egg salad on pumpernickel for lunch. Egg salad is so much better on pumpernickel than on plain old white bread.

Since lunch was small, my snack was a bit bigger, sort of a mini meal. I had 2 Light Life roast turkey style deli slices with 2 slices of white American cheese wrapped around 2 jalapeno pickle spears with some spicy sweet chili Doritos. It was a yummy snack.

I basically just snacked along the entire day, with mini meals and ice cream. I just had a little of the Breyers vanilla, but I've knocked a dent in the carton. It kills me how small the containers are getting, not to mention the price getting bigger. Before you know it, it will only be sold in single servings with a $10 tag, talk about portion control. Don't be messin' with my ice cream people!

I had an Amy's enchilada verde dinner last night. These look rather small, but are pretty filling. I always think I'll need something to go with it, but I never do.

I baked this one in the toaster oven, which takes forever, about 35 minutes. It wasn't any better than doing it in the microwave. It dried out the rice & beans a little and the edges of the tortilla were a little tough. I think I would just as soon do this dinner in the microwave.

It wasn't a "big dinner" Sunday at Mom's, but it wasn't a bad one. My schedule is off this week, so I'm blogging today instead of tomorrow. See you on Thursday, I think? Have a great day/week!!! I going back for more coffee.

Fish And More

I'm starting to like this 7-8 hours sleep nights, I could go 9 I think, but it's way better than 5-6. I also think I sleep better when I get to bed before 12am. I still feel like I need coffee when I get up, but with my 1/2 caf and B12, I can get through the day without being sleepy. No naps needed.

I had a huge cup of coffee with a raisin cream pie. This is not a healthy breakfast, not very filling either.

I also had a piece of cheese toast. I used half a slice of white American cheese with some shredded Mexican blend cheese, parsley, garlic, and black pepper; the ultimate cheese toast.

I had my coffee, but forgot my B12. I even had a MIB iced coffee from Dunkin, but I kept yawning all day. I guess that B12 does more than I thought. I've made sure to take it today.

We went shopping at Sears, Hobby Lobby, and then to Long John's for fish. We all got the 2 piece fish with fries and hush puppies. The fish was sort of greasy, even for fried fish. It was more like it had been dipped in oil. The hush puppies and fries were pretty good. I've been craving hush puppies for a while. Captains D's are better though. I had malt vinegar with my fish and cocktail sauce with my fries and hush puppies. It was a pretty good lunch, but we didn't ring the bell.

I had a handful of TFM Men's Omega3 Energy snack mix when I got home and for dinner later, I had a MSF riblet with leftover LJS fries and 2 of Mom & Lynda's leftover hush puppies. OMG, what's with all the 3 letter abbreviations, right?
It was a good day. Now I'm going to go and see if I can make this one a good one too. Enjoy yours!!!

Light Life Smart Deli Veggie Protein Slices Review

Up a bit earlier this morning than planned. Sandy, the canine queen, insisted on going out early, about 45 minutes earlier than my scheduled wake-up time. There was no getting back to sleep.

(see ADD) I believe I need a device that's just for blogging without a browser for internet distractions. I get sidetracked too easily. I could have had this post up lots sooner if it weren't so easy to browse. Most likely why posts are sometimes late.

Yesterday, there was cereal for breakfast, frosted mini wheats.

I had coffee, 1/2 caf of course, afterwards. I make 6 cups in my coffee maker, which equals one and a 1/2 cups in my larger mugs.

I had Light Life's Smart Deli Roast Turkey Style veggie protein slices on a sandwich for lunch.
They look very similar to the Tofurky oven roasted deli slices. The taste is similar too. I do think there may be a slight difference, but not much of one. The Light Life slices are a bit thicker and easier to separate than the Tofurky slices, which wins a few extra brownie points. I still prefer the taste of the Peppered Tofurky Slices, but the Light Life would get my vote otherwise. Both are great for munching straight out of the package. I usually have a slice while making my sandwich.

I had shredded iceberg, mayo, and jalapeno pickle spears on white bread with my deli slices.

Not a bad sandwich. I guess Light Life will be getting 5 stars as well.

Another bowl of Breyer's vanilla as my late afternoon snack. I still say I could eat the whole carton.

This is my tator tot dinner. I also had a side salad of iceberg, spinach, shredded Mexican cheese and Zesty Catalina dressing. We tried the onion flavored tots, but weren't impressed, not enough onion flavor and you could get the same effect buy the store brand and adding a sprinkle of onion powder, with the added advantage of more onion flavor. These were not worth the extra $$$.

Yeah, my pages sometime have bonus reviews, not mentioned in the title, but I would have to do a separate post otherwise and I have a hard enough time doing one, lol. Guess that's it for today. Have a good one!!!

Dinner Was A Flop

Yesterday was suppose to be a day of catching up. I was hoping to get a lot done around the house. It wasn't quite as productive as I had planned, but I did get a few things done.

I woke up feeling sort of dehydrated and sluggish.  I had part of a sour melon powerade, my B12 supplements, a vitamin C tablet,.....

....then a big 'ol cup of 1/2 caf,....

....and a raisin cream pie for a little sugar rush. I definitely wasn't feeling sluggish after all that, but I stay thirsty all day, so I finished off the powerade + water throughout the day.

I had a Hot Pockets four cheese garlic pasta pocket part of their limited edition products. Probably no longer available. This was the second from a box purchased months ago, I think. I had a salad of iceberg, spinach, green pepper and carrot with ranch dressing on the side. Love these pockets, but being a limited edition item, I don't see much point in getting attached.

After lunch, I repotted a few plants, mopped my dining room/dog kennel, and then had a bowl of Breyer's vanilla ice cream, just a few scoops, but I think I could have eaten the whole carton.

Later before dinner I indulged in a few handfuls of this sweet & spicy snack mix, way down in the bottom of this jar. I finished it off. I would like to try making my own version. I've found a few recipes I may try.

Dinner was a flop, literally. I'm not sure what happened, but it wasn't cooperating. In case you can't tell, this was suppose to be a quesadilla. I used two whole wheat tortillas, creamy four cheese rice-a-roni, shredded Mexican blend cheese and shredded spinach, seasoned with cumin, garlic, and cilantro. It was pretty good anyway. It did need a little more seasoning though.

Well that's it. I'm late again, between watching Rachel Ray makeovers and blogger slowly uploading my photos. I may turn of the television off tomorrow. Have a great day!!!

Less Stressed

Today I am up early, trying to stay in my new routine of going to bed early and getting up early. It seems to be working out alright so far. Blogging less has taken away some of the stress I've been feeling lately. Unfortunately I am still dealing with more stress than I want to deal with. I think you can tell by what I've been eating.

I tend to eat more healthy when I am less stressed and vice versa. Yesterday's food was considered healthier than I actually felt like eating and it still wasn't very healthy. I did have salad twice, but that's about as healthy as it gets.

Breakfast was rushed also obvious by the bite taken from my bagel before the photo. It was not intentional. I nearly forgot to take one.

I was rushing this morning because I had to leave early so that I could get to Lindsay's and stay with the girls while she went to work. I took a Stouffer's frozen mac & cheese to make for our lunch. Mary and I had salad with ours. I also took leftover angel biscuits for Lexi, who loves them. She and Mary had one while waiting for the mac & cheese to bake.

Mary and I had a snack bag of microwave popcorn later while Lexi was taking a nap. I skipped the photo since Mary was sort of impatient. I had a chocolate snack cake when I came home. I was feeling sort of starved even though I had the popcorn earlier. These cakes seem very tiny when you're actually ready for a meal. It's probably a good thing though.

I heated some of the leftover stuffed peppers to go with the salad I had left from lunch. The salad was a mixture of shredded iceberg and spinach with green pepper and carrot. I used ranch dressing with black pepper.

I had a few off camera vanilla wafers after dinner. I plan to spend the day cleaning. My house has been somewhat neglected for the past few days. Time to get started. Have a great day!!!

Hitting The High Spots

My plans for posting this morning were interrupted with an early morning phone call. It seems Miss Mary wasn't feeling well and I was needed to keep Lexi & Rachael while Mary went to get checked out. I had planned to post yesterdays photos as I usually do, but by this evening I decide to just post a few photos from the last few days, since I haven't been able to post regularly and I probably won't be posting in the morning. I chose some of the best photos or at least ones that were more interesting than the others.

This is one of my breakfasts, with half caf, 2 Gimme Lean veggie sausages, applesauce, and cinnamon toast.

This is Sunday's dinner at Mom's. I had stuffed green pepper, salad with light ranch, mashed potatoes, peas, broccoli, and an Angel biscuit. Lots of green on my plate.

I was so stuffed afterwards, I had to wait a while before having dessert. I hated to wait when there was fresh strawberry pie with cool whip and also peach pie. I had a little sliver of each before going home.

These are the nachos I had the other day with tortilla chips, chili beans, salsa, cheese and after putting them in the microwave for about a minute, I added shredded spinach to top them off. I've been craving nachos frequently lately. Each plate full has been a little different with chips, salsa, & cheese being the basic ingredients. I had some today with spanish rice instead of beans. I totally forgot the spinach, which was a great addition.

This was one of my snacks. I had peanut butter sandwiched between vanilla wafers dipped in melted dark chocolate; a piece of Dove chocolate that I microwaved for a minute or so.

Lastly, I'm posting the salad I had last night, made from Sunday leftovers; shredded iceberg & romaine, peppers, carrot, cucumber, peas, shredded cheese, and a mixture of light mayo and rice vinegar for dressing with a little cracked black pepper.

I'm finishing this up early since the photos were already uploaded, so that I can still get to bed and get more rest. I've been getting more sleep than I had been, but the quality is still lacking. We've been dealing with a sick dog, which has been rather worrisome. Hopefully the situation is improving.

I'll still be doing posts, just not quite as many, until I can get a routine together which allows for sleep and everything else I have to do. Hopefully I'll have another post late Thursday morning. Have a great night/day!!!

A Fresh Start

A fresh start this morning....on blogging that is. I'm trying something else, trying to make this work with the rest of my schedule. I still didn't get to bed all that early, although it was way before 4am, so I slept in until 9 this morning. Now I'm rushing around trying to get this done before eleven and it's going to be close if I make it.
So here's what went on yesterday all summed up rather quickly. I had the last biscuit with 2 Gimme Lean sausages plus peach preserves. I also had 2 cups of half caf afterwards that I apparently didn't get a shot of. Due to a brain fade the coffee maker wasn't turned on before I made my biscuit. It was all set up, but someone who shall remain nameless didn't push the button. Bad things can happen before coffee, even if it's just half caf.

This is lunch. I had Mac & Cheese with chili beans and a small spinach salad. The salad included some carrot sticks, onion and spicy ranch dressing.

This was kinda sorta my late afternoon snack/dinner. I had this before taking a late afternoon nap.

I wasn't all that hungry when I got up so I just made a plate of simple nachos to go with our Netflix movie we were planning to watch. It's just tortillas, shredded cheddar and salsa, but it was pretty good.

We watched "We Bought A Zoo" starring Matt Damon. I loved that it was based on a true story and a pretty good story at that. It is a little tear jerky, but still very good. I didn't have to break out the tissues or anything. I'm just going to give it 4 star though, because, I try to avoid tear jerkers, but since this one wasn't so bad and it had a great ending, it was worth the look.

Now I'm outta here with a few moments to spare. Have a great day and I think I will too!!!

Celestial Seasoning Rasberry Zinger Review

Oh it gets later and later, but I just keeping putting it off, posting that is. Here I sit trying to get it done, but my heart ain't in it.

That line was written at almost 4am and I decided my mind wasn't in it either. I'd put it off so long that I was too exhausted to finish it and then I had a terrible time getting to sleep. I am a chronically tense person. My muscles don't know when to relax. I need to make time to relax before going to bed, but I don't. Anyway......

Yesterday's breakfast was another Light Life Gimme Lean sausage biscuit w/ peach preserves and a huge cup of coffee, half caf.

I also drank about 2/3 of another cup of coffee with lunch, which was a Veggie Patch veggie dog w/ mustard, sweet pickle relish and a side of leftover baked beans. I may try dill relish one of these days. I just don't care for the taste of the cloves in sweet relish.

My late afternoon snack included a big cup of Celestial Seasonings Raspberry Zinger.

I'm normally not a fan of anything raspberry flavored, but this was really good. I think it's the Zinger part that makes it so good, a sweet/tart flavor. I really like all the Zinger flavors I've tried, although their True Blueberry is still my favorite so far, this one still gets 5 stars. I had an orange and some vanilla wafers with my tea which was a great snack.

I had a beautiful boiled egg salad for dinner. I used shredded iceberg, green pepper, onion, broccoli, carrots, shredded Mexican blend cheese, and boiled egg of course, with Zesty Catalina dressing. I also had a few saltines and dill pickle slices on the side.

Ain't it perty? It tasted good too.

I've decided that I am going to start blogging in the morning again and see how that works out. Unfortunately or maybe not, I won't be able to post on Sunday, Monday, or Wednesday mornings. I've been using Twitter for any announcements about the blog, so if you're interested you can follow me. I am also considering just posting when I have a recipe or a review. Links to all posts are also available on Twitter. That's all for now. Have a great day/night!!!
